Jayden Daniels 2005 QB
Jayden Daniels: Throws at LSU pro day
8m agoDaniels, who opted to not throw at the NFL Scouting Combine, did so at LSU's pro day Wednesday, Eric Edholm of NFL.com reports.
Per the report, Daniels, who measured in at 6-foot-3⅝, 210 pounds, was slated to spend time afterward with the Patriots, Commanders, Giants, Vikings, Broncos and Raiders. As next month's draft approaches, the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner is viewed as one of the top options at the QB position, along with USC's Caleb Williams, North Carolina's Drake Maye and Michigan's J.J. McCarthy. While Williams is expected to be selected first overall, where Daniels lands remains to be seen, though what is clear is that the top four signal-callers figure to come off the board quickly, in any case.

Josiah Deguara GB TE
Jaguars' Josiah Deguara: Inking with Jacksonville
3h agoThe Jaguars are slated to sign Deguara to a one-year contract, Jordan Schultz of BleacherReport.com reports.
Deguara spent the last four seasons handling a depth role in Green Bay, where he was drafted in the third round back in 2020. His versatility both as a blocker and on special teams will boost his chances of earning playing time behind Evan Engram, but Deguara peaked with a 25-245-2 receiving line in 2021 and doesn't appear to have much fantasy potential.

J.K. Dobbins BAL RB
J.K. Dobbins: Lines up AFC West visit
4h agoDobbins (Achilles) is visiting the Chargers on Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Dobbins, who was recently medically cleared for football activities, is coming off a left Achilles tear after previously missing all of 2021 and about half of the 2022 season due to a torn ACL and proceeding issues. That medical history undercuts otherwise impressive career numbers for Dobbins, who has averaged 5.8 yards per carry and scored 13 touchdowns since entering the NFL in 2020 as a second-round pick by the Ravens, but only suited up for 24 games in that span. Reuniting with offensive coordinator Greg Roman could make the most sense as a landing spot for Dobbins, but it's possible he doesn't garner more interest than a potential prove-it deal. The Chargers signed Gus Edwards,a former Baltimore backfield mate of Dobbins, early in free agency.

Derek Stingley Jr. HOU CB
Texans' Derek Stingley: Slow start, strong finish
5h agoStingley recorded 39 tackles, 13 passes defensed and five interceptions over 11 regular-season games in 2023.
Stingley, a second-year cornerback and 2022 first-round draft pick, suffered a Week 3 hamstring that created issues for the defense early on, but upon his return Week 10, Stingley made an impact. He had interceptions in three straight games, including a Week 13 win over the Broncos. Stingley will return as Houston's top cornerback in 2024.

DeAndre Houston-Carson HOU DB
DeAndre Houston-Carson: Enters free agency
5h agoHouston-Carson recorded 41 tackles, five passes defensed, two interceptions and one fumble recovery over 13 regular-season games in 2023.
Houston-Carson started the season in Baltimore then finished up in Houston, where he played a career-high 447 snaps on defense. Injuries on the back end led to Houston-Carson playing a big role for the Texans, including two pivotal plays in a Week 10 win over the Bengals. He entered unrestricted free agency during the offseason.

Jimmie Ward HOU SAF
Texans' Jimmie Ward: Injury-marred 2023
5h agoWard (quadriceps) recorded 50 tackles, three passes defensed, one interception and one forced fumble over 10 games in 2023.
Ward, a team captain, was beset by injuries all season long. He missed time due to hip, hamstring and shoulder injuries before a quadricep ended his season in December. In between the setbacks, Ward played well, and his one interception was an end-zone pick that sealed a win over Denver. Houston went 6-4 in games he played and could use his stabilizing presence on the back end. Ward turns 33 in July and will be entering his 11th season.

Ali Sanchez PIT C
Pirates' Ali Sanchez: DFA'd by Bucs
2m agoThe Pirates designated Sanchez for assignment Thursday.
Sanchez signed a one-year deal with the Pirates in the offseason but will fall short of the Opening Day roster after going just 2-for-16 during spring training. The 27-year-old slashed .311/.375/.492 in Triple-A last season, which could draw some attention from other teams on the waiver wire.

Eddie Rosario WAS LF
Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Gets start in center field
3m agoRosario is starting in center field and batting seventh in Thursday's opener versus the Reds.
Rosario hasn't played an inning in center field since 2019 and has never been a regular there at the major-league level, but the Nationals are hoping he can provide enough offense to make up for what's sure to be inadequate defense. Victor Robles will begin the game on the bench.
-
Luis Rengifo LAA 2B
Angels' Luis Rengifo: Missing from Opening Day lineup
4m agoRengifo isn't included in the lineup for Thursday's season opener in Baltimore.
With a .783 OPS to go with 16 home runs and six stolen bases in 445 plate appearances last season, Rengifo was one of the few bright spots for an 89-loss Angels squad. Despite that success, Rengifo doesn't look as though he'll handle an everyday role to begin the 2024 campaign, as Anthony Rendon and Brandon Drury will draw starts Thursday at third and second base, respectively, while Miguel Sano steps in at designated hitter against Baltimore right-hander Corbin Burnes. The switch-hitting Rengifo should still be a regular in the lineup versus lefties, but he may need to wait for an injury or a Sano slump to open up steady playing time versus righties.
-
Victor Robles WAS CF
Nationals' Victor Robles: On bench against righty
6m agoRobles is not in the lineup for Thursday's opener versus the Reds.
The Nationals will go with Eddie Rosario in center field against right-hander Frankie Montas. It doesn't figure to be a strict platoon, particularly with Rosario's defensive shortcomings in center, but Robles might initially be used mostly versus lefties.
-
Ryan O'Hearn BAL 1B
Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Not starting against lefty
9m agoO'Hearn is absent from the lineup for Thursday's opener versus the Angels.
The Angels are rolling out southpaw Patrick Sandoval, so Ryan Mountcastle will be at first base and Jordan Westburg will serve as the designated hitter. O'Hearn will be a regular against righties, either at first base or DH.

Randal Grichuk ARI LF
Diamondbacks' Randal Grichuk: Lands on IL
9m agoThe Diamondbacks placed Grichuk (ankle) on the 10-day injured list Thursday.
Grichuk didn't appear in any Cactus League games while he was still limited to begin spring training following his January surgery to remove bone spurs from his right ankle, but he was able to take some at-bats in minor-league games on the back fields during the final week of camp, per MLB.com reports. He's not expected to be in store for a long stay on the shelf and could even be ready for activation when first eligible April 5 if he's able to head out on a minor-league rehab assignment this weekend.

Collin Sexton UTA SG
Jazz's Collin Sexton: Misses out on double-double
10m agoSexton logged 26 points (11-20 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds, nine assists, one block and two steals in 38 minutes during Wednesday's 118-111 loss to San Antonio.
Sexton's 26 points marked his highest-scoring output since March 4 during Wednesday's loss. The 24-year-old guard also tallied a team-high nine assists. Sexton has displayed impressive efficiency across his 13 appearances in March, posting 52.8/41.9/88.9 shooting splits.

Mouhamed Gueye ATL PF
Hawks' Mouhamed Gueye: Remains sidelined
15m agoGueye (elbow) won't play in Thursday's game versus the Cetlics, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
Gueye's continued absence won't affect Atlanta's rotation. His next chance to suit up is Saturday's matchup with Milwaukee.
-
Jalen Johnson ATL SF
Hawks' Jalen Johnson: Remains out Thursday
17m agoJohnson (ankle) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Celtics, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
Johnson is due for another evaluation soon, but the team hasn't released an official update since he was diagnosed with a right ankle sprain last Thursday. His next chance to suit up will come Saturday versus Milwaukee, while De'Andre Hunter and Vit Krejci should continue to see increased playing time until Johnson returns.
-
Onyeka Okongwu ATL C
Hawks' Onyeka Okongwu: Still out against Boston
18m agoOkongwu (toe) won't play in Thursday's game versus the Celtics, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
Okongwu's absence streak will extend to four games Thursday due to a left toe sprain. Bruno Fernando will likely continue to receive increased opportunities in his absence. Okongwu's next chance to suit up is Saturday's matchup with Milwaukee.
-
Dejounte Murray ATL PG
Hawks' Dejounte Murray: Still dealing with back issue
20m agoMurray is questionable for Thursday's game against the Celtics due to lower back soreness, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
Murray continues to deal with the back issue but hasn't missed a game since Feb. 9. Thursday's contest is the second half of a back-to-back set, and the point guard posted 30 points (13-20 FG), seven assists, three rebounds, two steals and two blocks in 35 minutes during Wednesday's win over Portland. If Murray takes a seat, Trent Forrest, Garrison Mathews and Wesley Matthews would be candidates for increased minutes, but Bogdan Bogdanovic would likely start at point guard.
-
Victor Wembanyama SA C
Spurs' Victor Wembanyama: Productive in return
25m agoWembanyama finished with 19 points (7-15 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 4-7 FT), eight rebounds, six assists and five blocks over 30 minutes during Wednesday's 118-111 win over the Jazz.
Wembanyama returned to action Wednesday after missing San Antonio's previous contest with an ankle injury. The rookie phenom has been a shot-blocking menace this season, recording at least five swats in 21 games. However, turnovers have been an issue for Wembanyama, as he is averaging 4.5 per contest over his last 10 appearances.

Alexander Barabanov SJ RW
Sharks' Alexander Barabanov: Week-to-week
7m agoBarabanov (lower body) will be out of action week-to-week, according to Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News.
Barabanov was injured in the second period Tuesday versus Dallas and did not return. There are only three weeks remaining in the season and it's possible that Barabanov has seen his last action of the campaign. He has four goals and 13 points in 46 games this season, a far cry from 2022-23, when he had 15 goals and 32 assists in 68 games.
-
Logan Thompson LV G
Golden Knights' Logan Thompson: Starting in Winnipeg
14m agoThompson is slated to start in goal on the road against the Jets on Thursday, Danny Webster of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
Thompson was excellent in his last appearance Monday against the Blues, stopping 31 of 32 shots en route to a 2-1 victory. He'll try to secure his 21st win of the season in a tough road matchup with a Winnipeg team that's been great at home this year, going 23-9-3 in the Canada Life Centre.
-
MacKenzie Blackwood SJ G
Sharks' Mackenzie Blackwood: Tending twine Thursday
23m agoBlackwood will be in the visiting crease in Minnesota on Thursday, according to Jessi Pierce of NHL.com.
Blackwood is 0-3-0 in his last three starts, giving up 14 goals on 88 shots (.841 save percentage). He will try and turn things around against the Wild, who average 30.1 shots on goal, 20th in the NHL. Blackwood is 9-20-3 with a 3.57 GAA and an .896 save percentage for the lowly Sharks this season.
-
Alex Nylander CLB LW
Blue Jackets' Alexander Nylander: Unavailable versus Penguins
32m agoNylander (upper body) will not be available to play versus Pittsburgh on Thursday, Wes Crosby of NHL.com reports.
Nylander was dealt from the Penguins five weeks ago, in exchange for Emil Benstrom and has made the most of his change of scenery. Nylander has eight goals and 11 points in 15 games with the Blue Jackets and is seeing almost three minutes more of ice time than he did in five scoreless games with the Penguins earlier in the season.
-
Stuart Skinner EDM G
Oilers' Stuart Skinner: Defending crease against Kings
37m agoSkinner will be in goal versus Los Angeles at home Thursday, Tony Brar of Oilers TV reports.
Skinner has given up three or more goals in each of his last four outings but still managed to secure a 2-1-1 record. With a supporting cast that includes world-class center Connor McDavid, the 25-year-old Skinner should be able to skate by without having to be perfect. Simply good enough will do for the Edmonton native Skinner.
-
Colin Blackwell CHI C
Blackhawks' Colin Blackwell: Not playing Thursday
43m agoBlackwell (upper body) will miss his fourth straight game Thursday versus Ottawa, Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
The good news is that Blackwell has started skating again. He has eight goals and 12 points in 39 games this season.
