Sam Howell SEA QB
Seahawks' Sam Howell: Receiving trade interest
14h agoThe Seahawks have received trade inquiries about Howell and are open to trading him, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Howell served as Seattle's backup last season and threw just 14 passes behind the mostly healthy Geno Smith. With Smith now in Las Vegas, Seattle has revamped its quarterback room, bringing in both Sam Darnold and Drew Lock. GM John Schneider said earlier this week that Howell would compete with Lock for the backup QB role, but the organization's reported willingness to deal Howell suggests that Lock has the inside track on the job. Howell could be an intriguing option for teams in need of a backup QB -- despite his struggles in a very limited sample last season (he completed just five of those 14 pass attempts), he has ample experience as a starter, completing 63 percent of his pass attempts for 3,946 yards and a 21:21 TD:INT over 17 regular-season games with Washington in 2023.

Irv Smith HOU TE
Texans' Irv Smith: Returning to Houston
16h agoThe Texans signed Smith to a one-year contract Friday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Smith hooked on with Houston's practice squad last September and ended up getting signed to the team's active roster in December. The veteran tight end played in five total regular-season games and didn't see a target on offense, though he did catch one pass for two yards in the Texans' playoff loss to Kansas City. Smith figures to again be buried on Houston's depth chart when the team's tight-end corps is healthy, though Brevin Jordan is recovering from a torn ACL and Cade Stover fractured his collarbone in the team's wild-card win against the Chargers in January.

Khalid Duke TEN LB
Khalid Duke: Cut with injury tag
19h agoThe Titans waived Duke (undisclosed) on Friday with a non-football injury designation, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
Duke, who went undrafted out of Kansas State last season, logged two regular-season appearances with Tennessee as a rookie. Across 12 combined defensive snaps, he tallied one solo tackle.

Justin Hardee TEN DB
Justin Hardee: Let go by Tennessee
19h agoThe Titans released Hardee (undisclosed) on Friday with an non-football injury designation, Jim Wyatt of the team's official site reports.
Hardee contributed exclusively on special teams (184) across his nine regular-season appearances with Tennessee in 2024. The veteran re-signed with the team early April, but he appears to have since picked up an injury, leaving him among the Titans' roster cuts leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft.

Greg Dortch ARI WR
Cardinals' Greg Dortch: Signs RFA tender
22h agoDortch signed his one-year restricted free-agent tender Friday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Dortch was extended a tender by Arizona back in March, and he now officially re-signs with the team on the one-year deal worth $3.3 million. He played all 17 games with the Cardinals last season, securing 37 of 50 targets for 342 yards and three touchdowns. Now heading into his fifth consecutive year with Arizona, Dortch is again positioned for a role on offense behind Marvin Harrison and Michael Wilson.

Sam Howell SEA QB
Seahawks' Sam Howell: Competing for backup job
2d agoHowell will compete for the No. 2 job behind Sam Darnold after the Seahawks signed Drew Lock on Friday, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
GM John Schneider added that he looks forward to Howell's development in the new scheme after the Seahawks fired OC Ryan Grubb after just one season and replaced him with Klint Kubiak. Schneider also stated that Lock's arrival doesn't mean the team won't add another quarterback during the draft. Howell played just 25 snaps during 2024, completing five of 14 passes for 24 yards and an interception. Such a small sample size isn't determinative of Howell's future, however, as he was a serviceable option in Washington in 2023 with 3,946 yards, 21 touchdowns and 21 interceptions in addition to five rushing scores. Meanwhile, Lock's career numbers aren't much better, but he has familiarity with the organization and may be a more steady backup as the Seahawks look to perform a quick rebuild with Darnold's lead.

Scott Blewett BAL RP
Orioles' Scott Blewett: Removed from 40-man
1m agoThe Orioles designated Blewett for assignment Saturday.
Just five days after being claimed from Minnesota, Blewett will once again be placed on waivers to make room for the addition of Brandon Young. The 29-year-old Blewett pitched 4.1 innings over his two appearances for the O's, during which he allowed one unearned run while striking out six batters and walking one. He now owns a 1.00 ERA and 11:1 K:BB through nine frames on the season and could receive plenty of interest on the waiver wire.

Kody Funderburk MIN RP
Twins' Kody Funderburk: Returns to minors
20m agoThe Twins optioned Funderburk to Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday, Phil Miller of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports.
Funderburk made two appearances for the Twins after joining the team last Saturday, allowing two earned runs on three hits and a walk while striking out five batters across four innings. He'll end up as the odd man out of a roster spot with Brock Stewart (hamstring) returning from the injured list but could return to the big leagues again if Minnesota's bullpen depth is tested later in the year.
-
Brock Stewart MIN RP
Twins' Brock Stewart: Back from injured list
24m agoThe Twins reinstated Stewart (hamstring) from the injured list Saturday, Phil Miller of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports.
Stewart has been on the injured list all season due to a left hamstring strain he suffered during spring training. He's made two rehab appearances in Single-A since then, pitching 1.2 innings and striking out every batter he faced. Now that he's fully healthy, the 33-year-old righty figures to immediately slide into a high-leverage role in Minnesota's bullpen. Kody Funderburk was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

The No. 1 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft ended his rookie campaign averaging 12.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 24.6 minutes on 45.8/35.5/71.1 shooting splits across 75 regular-season appearances. Daniels posted a double-double in both of the Hawks' losses during the Play-In Tournament. 12h agoDavis (knee) has returned to Friday's game against the Grizzlies, Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.com reports.
Davis exited the game briefly due to an apparent knee injury, but he returned to the hardwood after receiving treatment. The big man should continue to operate as Dallas' go-to option on offense down the stretch in a game during which the Mavericks are down by a wide margin.

Anthony Davis DAL C
Mavericks' Anthony Davis: Exits with knee injury
12h agoDavis left Friday's game against the Grizzlies during the fourth quarter with an apparent right knee injury, Noah Weber of TheSmokingCuban.com reports.
Davis limped off the court and received treatment from the trainers while on the bench, and it's uncertain if he'll return to the game. If he doesn't, Caleb Martin, Daniel Gafford and Naji Marshall would be in line to see more minutes down the stretch.

Lakers' Rui Hachimura: Available to play Saturday
12h agoHachimura (knee) is not on the injury report for Game 1 against the Timberwolves on Saturday.

Varlamov last played Nov. 29, finishing the season with a 3-4-3 record, a 2.89 GAA and an .889 save percentage across 10 regular-season games in 2024-25. He hopes to start skating in June as he is still rehabbing his knee. The 36-year-old still has two years remaining on his four-year, $11 million contract signed in July of 2023.

Roman Josi NSH D
Predators' Roman Josi: Was sidelined by concussion
14h agoJosi missed the last 25 games of the season due to a concussion, Alex Daugherty of The Tennessean reports Friday.
Josi is feeling good about where he's at in his recovery after finishing 2024-25 on injured reserve. At this point, it doesn't sound like there's too much concern about his status for the start of 2025-26. He's projected to be the Predators' top defenseman next season.

Sabres' Tyson Kozak: Heads to Rochester
20h agoKozak (hip) was sent to AHL Rochester on Friday, per Heather Engel of NHL.com.
