Joel Bitonio CLE OG
Browns' Joel Bitonio: Contemplating retirement
23h agoBitonio is deciding whether or not to retire and expects to inform the Browns of his decision before the start of free agency, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Bitonio has been in the NFL for 11 years and has been voted to the Pro Bowl each of the past seven seasons. He started in all 17 games for Cleveland last year and has missed just two regular-season contests since 2017. It would be a huge loss for the Browns' offensive line if Bitonio isn't part of the team next season, and Cabot adds that the left guard is "leaning a certain way" on retiring but isn't yet ready to share his decision.

Cornell Powell SEA WR
Cornell Powell: Let go by Seattle
2d agoThe Seahawks waived Powell on Friday, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
Powell spent the second half of the 2024 regular season on the Seahawks' practice squad, and he was signed to a reserve/future contract in early January despite never being elevated to the active roster. Assuming he clears waivers, the 2021 fifth-round pick will look to catch on with another team looking to add depth to its wide-receiver corps.

Nolan Smith PHI OLB
Eagles' Nolan Smith: Undergoes surgery to repair triceps
2d agoSmith had surgery Wednesday to repair a torn triceps that he suffered during the Eagles' Super Bowl LIX win over the Chiefs on Feb. 9, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Smith played at least 52 defensive snaps in each of the Eagles' first three playoff games, but he was limited to just 30 snaps on defense in the Super Bowl after tearing his triceps in the first half. He was able to play through the injury in the second half, and the 2023 first-round pick is expected to be ready for the 2025 campaign after undergoing surgery. Smith finished the 2024 regular season with 42 tackles (22 solo), including 6.5 sacks, two pass defenses, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery across 16 games.

DeMarcus Walker CHI DE
DeMarcus Walker: Cut by Chicago
2d agoThe Bears released Walker on Friday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Walker started in all 17 regular-season games for the Bears in 2024 and finished with 3.5 sacks and a career-high 47 combined tackles. He had one year left on his three-year, $21 million contract that he signed in March of 2023, but the Bears have freed up an extra $10.75 million of salary cap space by cutting Walker, per Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun Times. Now entering the offseason as a free agent, Walker should receive plenty of interest from teams looking for a veteran upgrade to the defensive line.

Sheldon Rankins CIN DT
Sheldon Rankins: Let go by Cincinnati
2d agoThe Bengals released Rankins (illness) on Friday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
An illness prevented Rankins from practicing or playing since Week 10, and he ended the season on the reserve/non-football illness list. He started in seven games for the Bengals last season and finished with 10 tackles (eight solo), including 1.0 sacks. It's unclear if his illness will linger into the offseason, but once fully healthy, Rankins will be on the lookout for a team in need of veteran depth on the defensive line.

Matthew Stafford LAR QB
Rams' Matthew Stafford: Extension or trade both possible
2d agoThe Rams hope to reach a contract agreement with Stafford (ribs) but may try to trade him if the two sides can't agree on numbers, Cameron DaSilva of Rams Wire reports.
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Friday that the Rams recently gave Stafford's agent permission to talk with other teams to help assess the QB's value. The idea, it would seem, is for the Rams to figure out if they're willing to pay Stafford as much as another team would, which can move negotiations forward (or not). His contract was also an issue last offseason, when Stafford had three years remaining without any guaranteed money. The Rams adjusted his contract in July, but now they have a similar situation at hand, with Stafford scheduled to make $27 million and $31 million for the final two years of his contract. Those figures are way below market value for a competent starting QB, but that's partially because Stafford received a huge signing bonus in 2022 and a restructure bonus in 2024, which is reflected in his cap hits for the next two seasons ($49.7 million and $53.7 million). An extension would allow the Rams to lower those cap hits while making Stafford happy, but it would also mean adding to the eventual dead-money cap charge when he's retired or released. Stafford turned 37 earlier in February, and right now it's not clear he'll be back in Los Angeles for 2025.

Charlie Morton BAL SP
Orioles' Charlie Morton: Set for spring debut
7m agoMorton (illness) is scheduled to start Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Tigers, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.
The 41-year-old missed some workouts at the start of camp due to an illness, but he'll still make his spring debut for the Orioles within the first few games of camp. Morton joined Baltimore on a one-year, $15 million contract in early January and will be a key rotation piece after posting a 4.19 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 167:65 K:BB across 165.1 innings with Atlanta last year.

Prelander Berroa CHW RP
White Sox's Prelander Berroa: Diagnosed with elbow strain
7m agoBerroa has a Grade 1 right elbow strain, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Berroa was pulled from Saturday's Cactus League contest against the Cubs after experiencing discomfort in his right elbow, and subsequent testing revealed the elbow strain. The White Sox haven't yet announced a timeline or course of action for the reliever's return, but Grade 1 strains typically require several weeks of recovery. Berroa entered spring training as a candidate for a high-leverage role in Chicago's bullpen after posting a 3.32 ERA and 12.3 K/9 over 19 innings with the team last season.

David Hamilton BOS SS
Red Sox's David Hamilton: Starts at short in spring opener
10m agoHamilton started at shortstop and went 0-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's spring game against Tampa Bay.
Hamilton is caught up in a roster battle that also involves prospect Kristian Campbell and Vaughn Grissom, who started at second base Saturday. Trevor Story will be the starting shortstop, so Hamilton needs to make the team either as a starter at second base or more likely as a utility infielder. A case can be made for any of the players competing at second base, but it all goes up into flames if Alex Bregman becomes the club's starter at second base. Hamilton immediately showed his value, leading off the first inning with a walk and a steal before scoring on a Marcelo Mayer single.
-
Wilmer Flores SF 1B
Giants' Wilmer Flores: Making spring debut
10m agoFlores (knee) is starting at first base and batting fifth for Sunday's Cactus League game against the Reds, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
The 33-year-old was limited to 71 games and finished last season on the injured list due to a knee injury that necessitated surgery, but he's ready to go for the start of spring training. Flores exercised his $3.5 million player option for 2025 in November and is expected to fill the small side of a platoon at first base with LaMonte Wade.
-
Felix Bautista BAL RP
Orioles' Felix Bautista: Takes big step toward return
15m agoBautista (elbow) threw live batting practice Sunday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Bautista's throwing session Sunday represented the first time he has faced live hitters since he underwent Tommy John surgery in October of 2023. The 29-year-old stated last week that he's confident in his ability to be ready to pitch by Opening Day, and all signs so far point to that scenario being a legitimate possibility. However, Bautista isn't expected to appear in any Grapefruit League contests until late in spring training, and how he fares when he gets back on the mound in exhibition play could be a determining factor in his return date for regular-season action.

Miguel Andujar ATH RF
Athletics' Miguel Andujar: In Sunday's spring lineup
23m agoAndujar (abdomen) is playing left field and batting sixth in Sunday's Cactus League contest against Colorado.
Andujar ended last season on the 60-day IL for an issue that required core muscle surgery. He appears to be fully recovered given his ability to hit and play the field Sunday. Andujar hit well in his first season with the Athletics last year, posting a .285/.320/.377 slash line with four homers and three stolen bases over 319 plate appearances, and he's slated to get regular at-bats in left field during the 2025 campaign.

Chris Livingston MIL SF
Bucks' Chris Livingston: Returns to NBA
31m agoThe Bucks recalled Livingston from the G League's Wisconsin Herd on Sunday.
Livingston was recalled after posting 20 points (7-12 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 2-3 FT) in 29 minutes during the Herd's 127-91 loss to the Motor City Cruise on Saturday. Livingston has made two NBA appearances in February, totaling 28 minutes of action.

Yuri Collins GS PG
Warriors' Yuri Collins: Back to NBA
33m agoGolden State recalled Collins from the G League's Santa Cruz Warriors on Sunday.
Collins was assigned to Santa Cruz on Saturday morning and posted 23 points, 13 assists, four rebounds, one steal and one block in 35 minutes during a 134-125 loss to the Oklahoma City Blue. Collins has yet to make his NBA regular-season debut.

DaRon Holmes II DEN PF
Nuggets' DaRon Holmes: Practicing, but remains out
42m agoNuggets head coach Michael Malone said that Holmes (Achilles) was able to participate in portions of Wednesday's practice, Brendan Vogt of TheDNVR.com reports.
The No. 22 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Holmes is still expected to miss the entire 2024-25 season while he recovers from the torn right Achilles tendon he suffered in the Las Vegas Summer League in July. That said, the fact that Holmes is back on the court in some capacity bodes well for his chances of being ready to play in Las Vegas when the summer rolls around. If he avoids any setbacks in his rehab program for the rest of the season and throughout the summer, Holmes could open the 2025-26 season as the top backup to starting center Nikola Jokic.
-
Neemias Queta BOS C
Celtics' Neemias Queta: Downgraded to out
1h agoQueta (illness) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Knicks, Justin Turpin of WEEI.com reports.
Queta has held a sporadic depth role in Boston's frontcourt this season, but he'll join Xavier Tillman (knee) in street clothes Sunday, which could open up more minutes for newcomer Torrey Craig. Queta's next chance to suit up will come Tuesday in Toronto.

Ayo Dosunmu CHI PG
Bulls' Ayo Dosunmu: Lacks return timeline
3h agoBulls head coach Billy Donovan said prior to Saturday's 121-117 loss to the Suns that Dosunmu (shoulder) is "pretty sore" and is without a timeline for a return, Cody Westerlund of 670TheScore.com reports.
Dosunmu injured his left shoulder in Thursday's 113-111 overtime loss to the Knicks, prompting the Bulls to rule him out for Saturday's contest. With Donovan noting that Dosunmu has "instability in his shoulder that he has to stay on top of," the fourth-year guard seems destined to sit out Monday's game in Philadelphia before the Bulls re-evaluate him upon returning to Chicago. While Dosunmu was sidelined Saturday along with Patrick Williams (quadricep) -- who is expected to miss at least two weeks -- Kevin Huerter (30 minutes) and Julian Phillips (24 minutes) saw the most notable boosts in playing time.
-
Duop Reath POR C
Trail Blazers' Duop Reath: Drops eight points in win
7h agoReath registered eight points (4-6 FG, 0-2 3Pt), four rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in 11 minutes during Saturday's 141-88 victory over Charlotte.
Reath was inserted into the rotation, playing down the stretch as the Trail Blazers easily accounted for whatever it was the Hornets threw at them. While it is good to see Reath back on the court, there is no reason to think this is anything more than a cameo given he's only played twice in the last six games.
-
Sergei Bobrovsky FLA G
Panthers' Sergei Bobrovsky: Downed by Kraken
2m agoBobrovsky turned aside 20 shots in Saturday's 2-1 loss to Seattle.
The veteran netminder played well but didn't get much help from his offense, and a Jared McCann tally in the third period on a 3-on-2 rush proved to be the difference. Bobrovsky has given up two goals or fewer in six of his last seven starts, a stretch in which he's gone 5-2-0 with a dazzling 1.74 GAA and .933 save percentage.
-
Shane Wright SEA C
Kraken's Shane Wright: Sparks offense in win
4m agoWright produced two assists, one on the power play, in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Panthers.
After helping to set up Kaapo Kakko early in the first period on the man advantage, Wright started a rush in the third that led to Jared McCann's game-winner. Wright has multi-point performances in three of the last four contests, and over the last nine games he's struck for four goals and 11 points.
-
Joey Daccord SEA G
Kraken's Joey Daccord: Sharp in win No. 20
8m agoDaccord stopped 26 shots in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Panthers.
The 28-year-old goalie nearly delivered his second shutout of the season, but Eetu Luostarinen's shot from in close midway through the second period caromed into the net off Daccord's blocker. It was the only puck to get past him however, as he collected his second straight win and career-high 20th of the year. Daccord has allowed more than three goals only once in his last nine outings, a stretch in which he's gone 4-4-1 with a 2.33 GAA and .925 save percentage.
-
Trevor Zegras ANA C
Ducks' Trevor Zegras: Lights the lamp Saturday
9m agoZegras scored the opening goal and took five shots on net in Saturday's 3-2 win against Boston.
Zegras' tally was the first of two that Anaheim put away in the first period. He remained active on the ice all night, taking four other shots across the 19 minutes he skated. The 23-year-old forward is up to seven goals, 16 points and 67 shots across 33 games this season. After he missed the majority of December and January with a torn meniscus in his right knee, Zegras has six points over his last nine appearances. While he is still trying to recapture the momentum he had from the 2021 and 2022 campaigns, the ninth overall selection from 2019 has shown steady offensive output since his return from injury. Zegras' potential gives him solid value in fantasy.

Calvin Pickard EDM G
Oilers' Calvin Pickard: In goal Sunday
12m agoPickard will defend the road net versus Washington on Sunday, according to Tony Brar of Oilers TV.
Pickard will get the second half of Edmonton's back-to-back after Stuart Skinner played in Saturday's 6-3 loss to Philadelphia. The 32-year-old Pickard has a 14-5-0 record with a 2.52 GAA and a .901 save percentage in 21 appearances this season. Washington sits first in the league with 3.64 goals per game in 2024-25 and posted an 8-3 win over Pittsburgh on Saturday.
-
Ryan McLeod BUF C
Sabres' Ryan McLeod: Lights lamp twice in big win
13m agoMcLeod scored two goals in Saturday's 8-2 win over the Rangers.
The 25-year-old center pocketed the Sabres' fourth and seventh goals in the rout. Despite missing three games in late January due to an upper-body injury, McLeod is having his most productive stretch of the season -- over his last 11 appearances, he's delivered eight of his 14 goals on the campaign, and 12 of his 30 points.
